Compost: Although
found on ultramafic soils, our specimens grow quite well in a rather peaty,
and therefore acidic, medium. Our compost is roughly a 1:1:1 mix
of peat, fine charcoal, and fine orchid bark.
Watering: Typical. Cultivation Difficulty: Moderate (2); tolerant, but does best with some nocturnal cooling. Propagation: Reputedly very difficult from cuttings. Distribution: Borneo.1 Ecology: Mossy forest, on ultramafic soils, from 1200-1800 m.1 |
| N. burbidgeae lower pitcher |
| N. burbidgeae is a beautiful species, with its elegant pitchers flecked with crimson. It is noteworthy not only for the coloration, but also the shape of its pitchers, particularly the upper ones. Unfortunately, it has a reputation for being difficult to propagate from cuttings, a matter with which we have no experience as yet. It seems to respond very well to standard highland or intermediate conditions, and maintains a slow, but steady, rate of growth. |
