N. albomarginata "speckled" N. albomarginata "red"
Although classified as a lowland plant, we have found this species to be somewhat intolerant of the high temperatures (often over 35 C) reached in our lowland greenhouse.  Experimentation has shown that this plant will tolerate intermediate conditions, and that is how we sometimes grow it.  We have found that the pitchers last longer, and although the rate of growth of the plant is reduced somewhat, the plants have grown quite well for several years now.  These observations are derived from experimentation with three different varieties (green, speckled, and red). llustrative of the variability of this species is the lovely red variety.  Even the leaves of this clone turn dark red in good light; such change seems to cause no harm to the leaves, however (they are not burned).  This variety seems more tolerant of very warm conditions than specimens which are more greenish in color.
